Quality-Service-Integrity

Your Very Own Personal Interior Design Guide

March 27, 2019 by Louise B. Delia

The world of interior design was once the domain of professional designers with years of training, and only those with money to burn could afford to partake of their services. These days, interior design is open to anyone. From crafty DIY aficionados to newcomers, anyone can decorate a space they can be proud of.

Do not neglect your basement when you are planning an interior-design project. If you have a basement that is even only semi-finished, it can be transformed into a great space to entertain, play or relax. If you are ready to start designing your home and have a basement you should think about what you can do to make it a place that you can enjoy.

If you’re working with a small living space, seek out furniture that’s space conscious. For example, if you don’t have the space for a guest room, buy a sofa or futon that can become a bed. Look for a kitchen table that can fold up when you need extra living space. You never want your home to feel crowded. Space conscious furniture can help a small home feel like a big one.

When you are redesigning a child’s bedroom or playroom, make it fun! It can be simple to not see it as they do. Be sure they can easily access everything. Try to see things from the child’s perspective and you will be able to eliminate potential hazards.

Be sure that every room has excellent lighting. Quality lighting will help you show off your home, and can even help a room feel bigger. If there’s a room in your home that has dark corners even with the lights turned on, invest in a stylish new lamp. It’ll make the whole room look better.

Framed pictures can be used in many creative ways. Remember that they are also a design element of your room. Straight lines are good in some situations, but don’t be afraid to change things up. Try placing them in the right angles or patterns. You will have white space that will change the room’s mood and create a cool look.

Take your sofa cushion shopping with you. It might feel silly, but taking along part of your sofa can save you a lot of time any money. Bring it with you when shopping for curtains or other decorating materials. This way, you will be able to ensure that everything matches.

If you have an open floor plan, try to pick a theme that flows throughout your home. Not everything in your home needs to match, but there should be something that ties each room together. Clashing or contrasting designs will make your home look cluttered and will detract from the beauty of each individual room.

Opening oneself up to the world of interior design opens up a world of possibilities within the home. Visions can take shape, flourish and develop into something amazing. With the advice and tips offered above, anyone can get started on tackling those design projects in their own home and begin creating spaces that wow.
